To the surprise of nobody, Paul Millsap confirmed that he’ll probably opt out of his contract with the Hawks and test the free agent market this summer.
Millsap had said similar things before and there’s no reason for him to change his tune. While it certainly sounds like he’d like to stay in Atlanta – “I want to be here. I think talks have been pretty good. … It’s something me, my agent and my family have got to sit down and talk about,” – Millsap will forego the $21.4 million option for next year to land a much richer deal, from the Hawks or someone else. Unless he joins some sort of Big Three configuration, don’t expect his fantasy value to change too much. He had a down year by his lofty standards but should be a mid-round player at worst next season.
