Despite the theoretical benefits of playing without feeding the ball to Anthony Davis, the Pelicans’ fantasy-relevant starters all fell flat on their faces in Friday’s home loss.
Jrue Holiday was the worst offender, finishing with four points, three rebounds, two assists and a 2-of-8 shooting line but was able to make things somewhat respectable by picking up three blocks in his 28 minutes. Holiday has been fantastic all season and deserves a mulligan here, though that’s cold comfort to anyone who rolled with him in DFS. All the usage he was supposed to absorb vanished when the Pels got down big and waved the white flag. Nikola Mirotic was fine with nine points and 12 boards but shot just 3-of-11 and didn’t hit a three. He’s earned your trust as well, though this performance certainly stings. E’Twaun Moore scored eight points in 24 minutes with no cash counters. The fact that Rajon Rondo led the group with 11 points, three rebounds and four dimes is pretty damning, and the fact that he went 5-of-6 from the free throw line shows you just how bizarre tonight’s game was. The Pels need Davis back in a hurry as the West bunches up in the bottom half of the playoff bracket.
