While discussing the state of the Knicks, Phil Jackson stated that chasing a star PG isn’t necessary and that the team will develop one from within.
“Chasing a point guard, where it becomes just an obsession, isn’t necessary. It’s not necessary. We can play the game without that,” Jackson said. He also stated that the team will work on developing a guard from within their system. If this is true, the Knicks won’t pursue free agent PGs Mike Conley and Rajon Rondo in the offseason.
This could be good news for Jerian Grant. Just last week, Kurt Rambis was considering inserting Grant into the starting lineup. Although it has yet to happen, signs keep pointing towards the Knicks handing the reigns over to him in the near future. Despite having a low-upside, Grant could have some value down the stretch. But with Rambis coaching for his job and more worried about wins, nothing is guaranteed. Watch him from the wire for now.
