Per Derek Bodner of The Athletic, Al Horford’s contract with the Sixers contains $97 million guaranteed, with the final $12 million as a partial guarantee in the fourth year of the deal.
The big news of this is that if Horford’s play starts to decline as he ages into the final years of his deal, the Sixers can get out of his contract easier, either by eating some money or by trade if they so wish. That’s a few years down the road, and right now Horford is looking to make a terrorizing frontcourt pairing next to Joel Embiid. Horford’s value may drop with his new team, but he should still be highly productive, especially with Embiid’s penchant for DNP’s.
