Marc Stein of the New York Times is reporting that Carmelo Anthony will not opt out of his current contract before the Saturday deadline.
Why would he? While Anthony has already said that he has no intentions of coming off the bench, it's unlikely that a game of media chicken between him and the coaching staff over his role would convince Melo to pass up $28 million. There is absolutely no chance he earns anything close to that on the open market, so he'll probably wind up being rich and unhappy in OKC. A move to the bench would be best for all parties and there's a chance that he comes to accept it in time, but for now he'll continue to bog things down as the Thunder's starting power forward.
