A team source said the Celtics want to bring back Marcus Smart and keep Terry Rozier for added depth next season.
This is consistent with what Celtics’ president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said this week when he acknowledged that he doesn’t feel the pressure to make any major adjustments to his roster. Boston wants to keep Smart at a reasonable salary but a potential lucrative offer sheet could poach him away in a summer where there are only a few teams able to spend money in free agency. Rozier’s trade value skyrocketed after a successful run in the playoffs this year but he is eligible for an extension this summer and he’s eager to learn from Kyrie Irving so he should remain a Celtic at least until next year when he becomes a restricted free agent.
