Isaiah Thomas told the LA Times that he wouldn’t rule out returning to the Lakers in a role similar to what he has now, coming off the bench for significant minutes.
“I like it here, I like the situation I’m in, the system, coaching staff,” Thomas said. “Organization has been great to me. If things work out I would love to be here. You just never know. With free agency you’ve got to keep your options open. I have no complaints since I’ve stepped foot and put a Laker uniform on.” IT has played 16 games for the Lakers averaging 15.6 points and 5.2 assists per contest but shooting just 38 percent. He has developed strong chemistry with both Julius Randle and Lonzo Ball while lineups that include Randle and Thomas together have been more productive on offense and defense than those that don’t include that pair. The team likes ITs’ influence on the youngsters and Luke Walton has appreciated having a veteran voice on the court. The days of him being the scapegoat in Cleveland are long gone and Thomas has been able to reestablish himself as an important piece on a rebuilding squad. It’s too early to tell where he will be next year but as long as his health issues are behind him, he could return to being a top-25 fantasy asset.
