Kristaps Porzingis’ return, whether at around 10 months (Christmas) or 12 months (All-Star Weekend), will be based strictly on data from strength tests that he will need to pass with his knees and quads.
“I’m not going to be the one to decide,’’ KP said. “There’s going to be testing and some proof that I’m ready, my leg is strong as before or even stronger.” The Latvian big revealed that he has done things differently because there is no protocol and no timetable for his type of body and his size. Knicks president Steve Mills also emphasized on how the team will do nothing that puts Porzingis’ future as a franchise player “in jeopardy.’’ It’s easy to see how the team is building a narrative in order to keep KP out as long as possible and it will be hard for managers to draft him in leagues without an IL position.
