Stan Van Gundy told Rod Beard of the Detroit News that he was perfectly willing to only go in one role and to give up the front office gig but owner Tom Gores wanted to change the structure and leadership of the organization.
SVG has said previously that the Pistons would be his last coaching stop, but he didn’t like the way his tenure ended in Detroit and he won’t close the door on the future. “If the right situation came along, I wouldn’t dismiss it,” Van Gundy said. “I’m not going out on the terms I would like.” It seems highly unlikely that he will get another chance anytime soon after what looks like a colossal failure in Detroit while it will be interesting to see the direction the team takes moving forward.
