Sam Amico is reporting that Andre Drummond is expected to pick up his player option at the end of the season.
The Pistons traded Drummond in part because he has maintained that he'd opt out to test free agency in hopes of earning a max contract. The trade deadline had to be a humbling experience for him, as the best the Pistons could get for the 26-year-old, two-time All-Star was two expiring deals and a second-round pick in 2023. That must have opened Drummond's eyes to the reality of his market value, and while he might've gotten longer term as a free agent he would very likely have struggled to make the same $29 million that his option is good for. The Cavs will now have to juggle Drummond, Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson and Larry Nance Jr. in the frontcourt, with the first two likely the only ones to surface with value in 12-team leagues.
