Mike D’Antoni is strongly leaning toward using Eric Gordon as the starter and Carmelo Anthony as a sixth man.
Analytics would support this move as the Rockets outscored opponents by 71 points in 148 minutes when Gordon joined James Harden and Chris Paul on the court last year. Tim MacMahon is also saying that D’Antoni would prefer to use Melo together with a strong defender like James Ennis while P.J. Tucker is locked in as the team’s starting power forward. Nothing is set in stone yet but this is something to keep an eye on during training camp since Gordon would probably get a boost by moving into the starting lineup.
