Speaking on the Back 2 Back podcast, Bruce Arthur of the Toronto Star said that he's heard Kawhi Leonard is already plotting his free agency next summer and has been in contact with other stars to see where they might want to team up — and not just in Los Angeles.
Arthur is a well-connected and highly regarded journalist covering all things Toronto but isn't typically a pure NBA newsbreaker, so keep that in mind. The fact that Leonard could be considering locales other than L.A. is potentially huge, and Arthur tossed out Brooklyn as a team that will have a ton of cap space. It sounds like Leonard is looking to find a legitimate title contender and while the Lakers remain his priority, he might be swayed if the right combination of teammates surfaces elsewhere. Los Angeles remains the odds-on favorite landing spot but the Raptors can offer him more cash than anyone else and could make a compelling argument if they can finally bust through their playoff ceiling this year.
