In his past five games, Russell Westbrook is averaging 27.0 points on 53.1 percent shooting, a turnaround that appears to be about generating and choosing better shots, as much as shooting more accurately.
“I think he’s getting to the rim more,” Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni said, “getting to the rim and finishing.” The Rockets are 12-2 when Westbrook makes 43 percent or more of his shots, and 8-1 when he makes at least half his shots. Westbrook had said from the start that his move to the Rockets and his reunion with James Harden would require a season-long process. Cutting his attempts from the 3-point line from 5.4 per game to 4.2 in his past five games has definitely helped his efficiency and hopefully better days are ahead for him and the Rockets.
