The Lakers have reached out to the Spurs to indicate their interest in Kawhi Leonard, per Yahoo's Shams Charania.
It was reported earlier in the day that the Spurs haven't communicated to the Lakers yet, and Charania notes that no proposals have been discussed. It's widely assumed that Leonard would just leave for the Lakers in free agency in the summer of 2019 anyway, so the Spurs are probably reluctant to speed up that process and deal with a potential superteam in L.A. next season. On the other hand, other teams are probably just as reluctant to offer up a true haul if they feel like he won't re-sign. If the Lakers are willing to submit the best offer and get one extra year of Kawhi, the Spurs could have their hand forced. Ramona Shelburne is also reporting that a Lakers source said "they basically shut the door on us" in regards to talks with the Spurs, so perhaps San Antonio will just deal with 28 teams rather than the whole field.
