The Sixers have chosen Villanova's Mikal Bridges 10th overall in the 2018 draft.
Bridges is something of a local product having plied his craft at Villanova. That could've played a factor here with Brett Brown serving as the GM — it's unlikely someone thrust into the role would have an exceedingly deep knowledge of the draft class, and every bit of extra info imparted by Bridges playing close to his now-home couldn't have hurt. His mother also works in HR for the Sixers. He has a nice all-around game (43.5 percent from deep, 1.1 steals and 1.5 blocks per game) and could be an immediate role player for the Sixers, who can look to him as a 3-point threat and capable defender. Perceived to be a safe and NBA-ready pick, Bridges should provide competent two-way play from the jump. He's unlikely to garner as much buzz as the other rookies in the class but Bridges has a better shot than most at delivering late-round returns in standard leagues.
