Scott Skiles didn’t endorse Elfrid Payton as the point guard of the future.
With the surprising news of Skiles’ resignation, we’re starting to hear some of the reasons why he left so abruptly. Reportedly, Skiles and Magic GM Rob Hennigan disagreed on Elfrid Payton being the future point guard to lead Orlando. Skiles is known as an old school, no nonsense coach, but as George Karl quickly figured out, that approach may not work in the millennial version of the NBA we see today. Skiles was a solid point guard in his playing days, so he knows what a point guard should look like. Still, this might give Payton the opportunity to really bust out of his shell and the Magic will now seemingly hire a head coach that will truly help Payton’s game develop next season.
