The New York Times' Marc Stein is reporting that Kevin Durant will become a free agent on July 1 but intends to stay with the Warriors and should have an agreement on a new deal quickly.
Durant could opt in for $26.3 million but the deadline for that is Friday and he's going to let that go by quietly. The Warriors could be in for some tough decisions as their Big 4 need new contracts, especially if none of them are willing to take hometown discounts to keep the band together. Durant is essentially a lock to stay in Golden State despite the paperwork and formalities coming up this weekend. We'll see how the structure of his next contract could help or hinder the team going forward.
