According to Marc Stein, the Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia Sixers are "pressing" the Spurs to trade Kawhi Leonard in an effort to also sign LeBron James in free agency.
It is not news that the Lakers are heavily involved in trade talks but the fact that the Sixers are also "pressing" to get Leonard is. With LeBron James' decision to opt in or out coming soon, a Kawhi Leonard trade would be a big step in convincing LeBron to sign with your team. The two had reportedly been in contact with each other about playing together. The Sixers also want to make a trade sooner rather than later as Robert Covington's contract goes from over $16M down to $10M once the new season starts. The extra money would make a trade work out easier financially speaking, so getting a deal done before the contract switches would be vital.
