The Wizards are "actively exploring" trades involving Marcin Gortat but remain reluctant to include pick No. 15 in any deal.
It'd be a high price to pay for offloading Gortat's contract, which only has one year remaining. We have the Wiz taking big man Robert Williams in the draft tonight as The Polish Hammer's long-term replacement, as it's hardly surprising to hear that the team is trying to move Gortat. It's been a story for two years or so now, and his relationship with the organization and some of his teammates seems rocky at best. While Gortat can still be a serviceable player the Wiz might be hard pressed to find many takers, even as he's on an expiring deal — there aren't many teams interested in acquiring a slow, post-based center these days. Stein identified the Mavs and Blazers as teams who can absorb the big man's salary tonight but it might make more sense to agree to something in principle and wait on pulling the trigger so as to make the numbers work for a wider variety of teams.
