The Suns have selected Arizona's Deandre Ayton first overall in the 2018 NBA draft.
It was the worst-kept secret in the league, as Ayton only worked out for the Suns and declared that he'd be going first overall weeks ago. Despite some diplomatic "exploring all options" quotes from Phoenix management, this was always the play. Ayton averaged 20.1 points, 11.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks with the Wildcats last season and should step into a large role right away for Phoenix, who will hope that an Ayton-Devin Booker tandem can return them to relevancy. He's a tremendous athlete and gifted offensive player, but there were some questions about his defense and motor. For fantasy purposes he's got a nice shooting profile and is in line for tons of playing time. On sheer opportunity alone Ayton has a shot at middle-round value in a best case scenario, but a mid-late valuation is the wiser bet as long as the Suns don't mess with his minutes.
