Suns’ GM Ryan McDonough said that the priority is to find a new head coach when the season wraps up.

The team remains focused on watching how interim coach Jay Triano leads his 19-47 team the rest of the way but the front office is also preparing for what will be a ‘thorough and pretty extensive’ coaching search. Triano, who took over for Earl Watson three games into the current season, has helped the young Suns show flashes but Phoenix currently owns the worst defensive rating in the NBA and the third-worst offensive rating. The team has not yet conducted preliminary interviews for the head coaching job and McDonough said they have taken to a policy of telling interested candidates that the team will reach out in April once the season ends. The Suns’ opening will actually be one of the most intriguing ones this offseason as the team will likely have a top pick to add to an already young nucleus of Devin Booker, T.J. Warren, Josh Jackson and Elfrid Payton, as long as they are able to re-sign him.
