Tim Hardaway Jr. has been traded to the Mavs in Thursday's Kristaps Porzingis deal.
The Knicks have been motivated to trade Hardaway and his contract away in an effort to clear space for this summer, and by moving he and Courtney Lee for Dennis Smith Jr. and expiring deals they've opened up two max slots in free agency. With Wesley Matthews heading to New York, Hardaway should comfortably slot in as the new starting shooting guard. He might need a practice or two to get into the starting lineup but that spot figures to be his eventually. THJ should see fewer shots with Dallas having some scoring options already on the roster but that might make him more efficient. It's a worthy tradeoff in a vacuum, with Hardaway likely maintaining late-round value the rest of the way. It will sting those of you with punt-efficiency builds, as THJ's volume should dip somewhat.
