Timofey Mozgov said that he expects to be the starting center next season in an interview with Mark Medina.
Mozgov was the surprising first player off the board in last year’s free agent frenzy, signing a four-year $64 million deal to help anchor the Lakers frontcourt and defense. Obviously it wasn’t a seamless transition, as Mozzy averaged just 7.4 points and 4.9 rebounds and was shut down over the final two months so LA could take a look at Ivica Zubac. While the rookie had his moments, he could probably use some more seasoning before being anointed as the starter. The Lakers would love if Zubac stole the job outright in camp, but that might not happen. Regardless of what happens (and there’s plenty of moving and shaking to come in the next few months), Mozgov shouldn’t be a fantasy option in all but the deepest of leagues.
