Jonas Valanciunas struggled with early foul trouble in Friday’s win and ended up with 12 points, four rebounds and a triple in only 19 minutes of playing time.
Serge Ibaka was worse with seven points and four boards in 19 minutes of his own. Valanciunas racked up two fouls in just over two minutes and was stuck on the bench until just before halftime. Unfortunately for those two, Jakob Poeltl and Pascal Siakam continue to excel and more than earned their run in the closing group yet again. It also didn’t help that Toronto’s starters fell down by 14 early before the bench group carried them back to a lead. Poeltl picked up six points and three blocks in 22 minutes while Siakam scored five points with three rebounds and two steals. He shot just 2-of-9 but missed a few layups and open jumpers so that should correct itself. Even Bebe Nogueira got some run, tallying four points and two boards in seven minutes. In classic Bebe fashion he was a plus-14. The viability of all four (even five) players really hurts everyone’s fantasy ceiling, and it’s tough to tell who will stand out on a given night.
