Appearing on a Tuesday “NBA Draft: On the Clock” special, Adrian Wojnarowski said that the Thunder is in a better position to keep Paul George than it was when the team traded for him last summer, while the Lakers remain the main threat.
PG has a year remaining on his contract but he is expected to opt out and become a free agent on July 1st. He will be among the most coveted players on the market and while the Thunder has done a great job of selling him on a future with Russell Westbrook, Steven Adams and Billy Donovan, the most intriguing scenario remains the possibility that George teams up on the Lakers with LeBron James, who can also opt out of the final year of his contract after this season. Woj added that George fits right in with the Sixers and the team has the necessary cap space, while the Rockets will also be aggressive in trying to see if there’s a way to get PG there. It’s also possible that the Cavs try to get involved by offering their No. 8 pick in this year’s draft and it sure seems like PG will have plenty of options to explore about his future in free agency this summer.
