Mavericks rookie and ninth pick in this year’s draft Dennis Smith Jr. wants to become the “Quarterback” of their team, even though it’s laced with veterans.
Those are definitely big words for a 19 year old, but he seems to be ready to accept the responsibility that comes along with being a leader, and the Mavs seem ready to give it to him. Mark Cuban, owner of the Mavs, has said himself that its the beginning of the Dennis Smith era. With Dirk Nowitzki on the last leg of his career, the Mavs are looking for that new franchise player, and between Harrison Barnes and Dennis Smith Jr. it sure seems like they want it to be the latter of the two. Dennis Smith Jr. should definitely have fantasy value and could provide great value relatively late in drafts with his insane athleticism and ability to both score and assist. Smith could end up falling within the top-135 when its all said and done.
