The Grizzlies may be without Tony Allen next season, as beat writer Ronald Tillery (via The Commercial Appeal’s Peter Edmiston) is hearing that the team is only willing to offer him the veteran’s minimum.
Allen embodies the Grit and Grind brand of Memphis basketball and it’ll be a bit odd to see him in another uniform. The Grizzlies have long needed more playmakers and shooters and would probably reallocate Allen’s hypothetical salary to those endeavors. If that is as far as they’re willing to go, Allen should have no problem making more on the open market. Though he’s getting long in the tooth he’s got a few more seasons of terrific defense in him. Expect plenty of teams, especially contenders, to line up since he won’t break the bank.
