Willie Reed will decline his player option with the Heat for next season and enter the free agent market, per Adrian Wojnarowski.
Reed will be a very interesting guy to keep track of this summer and he’ll surely get a nice raise over the $1.5 million he was set to make. He’s a solid role player who was stuck behind Hassan Whiteside in Miami, and considering the sort of money that capable rim protectors have been getting it’s hardly shocking to see him hit the market. Reed performed well in his five starts, averaging 14.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.6 blocks. The Heat have plenty of cap space but would like to bring back James Johnson and Dion Waiters, so Reed might not be the top priority. While both sides allegedly want a reunion he could be lured away by big dollars or a larger role, and he could emerge as a low-end big man with the proper minutes. It’ll all depend on his next uniform.
