Gorgui Dieng scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting with three rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes off the bench in Friday’s loss to the Thunder.
Dieng had a big night the last time out and this was the mark we had established for him to maintain low-end value, but he’s not going to get there unless he starts blocking shots. He has just two blocks on the year and that’s the worst in the entire league among big men that have played more than 16 mpg. That’s such an outlier that it can’t possibly be his new way of doing business, and the question with Dieng has been one of ‘when will we see the real Gorgui Dieng.’
He got Nemanja Bjelica’s (foot) minutes tonight and he needs to be better than this while he’s getting this chance to truly make it work. He’s a stash and things have improved but knowing when he’s going to be comfortable is tough to guess.
