Jonas Valanciunas had a nice game in Wednesday’s season finale, finishing a road win with 13 points, seven rebounds a steal, and a triple in just 15 minutes.
That’s right, Valanciunas drilled a three in this one. It’s a shot that was two years in the making, as JV tells reporters every summer that he’s going to knock down a longball. While that doesn’t look to be a near-term factor for his game, Big Science posted strong top-70 numbers on a per-game basis and was top-60/50 on total value by virtue of playing in 80 contests. He was hurt by the arrival of Serge Ibaka and P.J. Tucker, who reformed the team’s defensive identity and pushed JV to the bench when lockdown fourth quarters were needed. He played just 25.8 minutes per game this year and won’t ascend any higher unless he’s fully freed. Unfortunately our bet is on more of the same, though there’s nothing wrong with JV being a steady mid-round big with great efficiency and scoring upside.
