Larry Nance says he has the ability to be in the Defensive Player of the Year discussion either next year or the year after.
Nance missed 16 games this year with a bone bruise in his knee but is not concerned about it. He is entering an injury prevention workout program to strengthen his core, quad and hamstrings. His off-season plan also includes studying tape of Draymond Green and Kawhi Leonard. In only his second year in the league, Nance was well within the top-100 in standard fantasy leagues while only playing 22.9 minutes per game. He finished the season very strong, starting the final seven games. The Lakers went 5-2 during that span and he averaged 10.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 0.9 blocks and 0.6 triples in 29.7 minutes. This should be enough to secure a starting role for him next season and be a top-50 player but it may not be that easy. The Lakers are hoping Ivica Zubac is the center of the future. Timofey Mozgov said he will challenge Zubac for the starting role and Julius Randle has the starting power forward position locked up. In all likelihood, Nance will come off the bench and play between 20-25 minutes as he did this year but even that will be enough to draft him as early as the eighth round in standard leagues next year.
