Damian Lillard hit just 8-of-26 shots (4-of-8 3PTs, 10-of-10 FTs) for 30 points, five assists and four steals in Sunday’s Game 1 loss to the Warriors.
Lillard and C.J. McCollum (12 points, 5-of-17 FGs, three boards, three assists, one steal, one block) have played undisciplined basketball pretty much throughout the playoffs and have not been able to respond to playoff-style game plans. Yes, the Warriors are amazing and the Blazers have no chance no matter what, but for them to be competitive they need better overall execution playing against schemes designed to shade coverage toward the guards.
Mason Plumlee (one point, 0-for-7 FGs, 12 boards, six assists, two blocks) generated some very bad habits in the Clippers series and will need to get back in his lane, and guys like Al-Farouq Aminu (15 points, 6-of-13 FGS, four boards, two blocks) and Moe Harkless (10 points, 4-of-12 FGs) will need to understand which of their wide open looks are good ideas and which ones aren’t.
