Espn Ian Begley reports the Knicks agreed to workout date with Dennis Smith Jr. for Wednesday.
The Knicks are looking for an impact player and improved point guard play. Knicks President confirmed this at the Draft Combine by saying he has been looking at mostly “guards and wings.” A Dennis Smith Jr. selection at pick number eight could achieve both. Smith was the number one recruit coming out of high school before his ACL tear. He still starred for North Carolina State leading the team in points, assists and steals. Even at the eight spot, the Knicks will have a number of choices at point guard, such as Frank Ntilikina from France who is two inches taller and projects to be a better shooter. Despite that Smith was awarded ‘Freshman of the Year’ in the very tough Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), and his level of competition should not be overlooked. He is more of a known commodity which may give GM’s more confidence with selecting him.
