The Mavs selected Purdue 7-footer A.J. Hammons with the 46th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.
Hammons dropped in the draft due to character concerns and at 24 years old he might as well file for Social Security with the way evaluators hate the ‘old’ dudes. But for a Mavs squad that needs young legs at the center position, they’re essentially reverse gambling on a guy that might not have draftnik upside but could possibly be undervalued in other ways. He blocks shots, can play in the post and has some shooting range. That said, he turns the ball over a ton and isn’t a lock to make the team.
