• Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Wednesday that Chris Paul notified the Clippers that he would opt into the last year of his contract and then the team agreed to trade him to the Rockets for Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, Sam Dekker and a 2018 first round pick.

The pick is protected for the top-3 and this represents a moonbeam shot by the Rockets to compete next season.  Woj reports that Paul had a strong desire to play with James Harden and that’s what they’re supposed to say, but the big question is how taking the ball out of both players’ hands will etch away at their overall value.  Still, this undoubtedly makes them competitive as a second tier team in the West and it sets up the Clippers for the next stage of their rebuild.  Both players will take a mild hit to their fantasy value.  We’ll have to see how the Clippers shape up before weighing in on those guys.

Update: There are going to be small pieces of this deal that are going to trickle in and we’ll put them all right here.
