Bobby Portis kept his foot on the gas with 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting (1-of-3 3PTs, 5-of-6 FTs) with 11 rebounds and one steal in 25 minutes off the bench in Friday’s loss to the Pacers.
Portis would need to completely scrap his career-long stat set of 1.0 money counters in 16.7 mpg, not to mention the 45.8 percent shooting from the field and 69 percent from the line. He’d also have to do better than the 0.7 assists per game he has averaged in that span. It’s exciting to consider the possibilities that he punched Nikola Mirotic out of town and now has some serious playing time opportunity, but looking at his situation pragmatically he’s only a short-term, lottery-ticket like add. Plan accordingly.
