Gorgui Dieng did not have any steals or blocks in Wednesday’s win over the Clippers, but did add eight points on 4-of-5 shooting with four rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes off the bench.
Dieng has had a nice little resurgence and at the same time Tom Thibodeau is starting to catch flak for being Tom Thibodeau, so maybe the coach decides to get out of Dieng’s head and return him to his old basketball playing ways. The biggest problem for him right now is the lack of blocks (he has just three on the year) but he has otherwise been a late-round value in 21.2 mpg over his last eight games with Nemanja Bjelica (foot) on the pine. We preach about late-round guys in low minutes but we’d be remiss if we weren’t pointing out that Dieng still has a ways to go before he’s safe.
