John Collins scored 16 points off the bench on Friday against the Pistons, hitting 8-of-13 shots with eight rebounds and two blocks in 27 minutes.
This is a good outing but we’re starting to see the outlines of why we haven’t been as hyped on him as others. Collins has averaged 20.8 mpg and returned low-end value in 12-14 team leagues, scoring 10.9 points with 7.7 boards, 0.4 steals and 1.3 blocks per game. He’s slated to get more playing time as the year goes on but it’s also possible the league catches up to him and as the Hawks get guys like Ersan Ilyasova and Mike Muscala back, the upside may be hard to find. Collins is still worth owning but for this to really be a big win he’ll need to get the same 27 mpg sooner rather than later.
