Lauri Markkanen shot 7-for-12 from the field for 19 points with eight boards, one block and five 3-pointers in 31 minutes in Tuesday’s 119-112 loss to the Cavs.
It was a coming out party of sorts for the rookie, who was on a big stage not only against the Cavs, but guarding LeBron James. After the game, James called Markkanen “a very confident kid. He can shoot the heck out of the ball.” That he was, as Markkanen set a rookie record for making 10 triples in his first three games played. With the Mirotic-Portis feud clearing his path to playing time earlier than expected, Markkanen is making the most out of his chance to shine. Hoiberg did, however, tell reporters after the game that he did limit the rookie’s minutes somewhat in the second half, even though he still played 31. Grab him off your waiver wire.
