The Nuggets will tread very lightly with Kenneth Faried (back) according to the Denver Post, and Michael Malone isn’t going to take any chances with his health as the year winds down.
“Sometimes I feel that I may have to protect him from himself,” Malone said. “I think he wants to be out there, but, you know what? We have 14 games to go, we know what Kenneth is about, we know the high level he’s capable of playing.” Faried did not let Malone know about his back injury on Wednesday — a game Malone pulled Faried from because of what he thought were defensive reasons.
“That just allows us to look at Joffrey (Lauvergne), Jusuf (Nurkic) and Nikola (Jokic) that much more,” Malone said. “Which I think in the final 14 would be great. If he is able to play, that’s one thing. But if he has any issues or concern, and he’s not feeling like he’s able to go out there and help us in a positive manner, why risk it? Why put him out there?” Lauvergne is the healthier player and is probably the first pickup, but if you’re feeling like a lucky gambler and want upside Nurkic can put up numbers in low minutes. Also, Darrell Arthur should be owned in all 12-team formats, a position we’ve had for a while now.
