Sam Amick of USA Today agreed to terms with the Kings on Sunday.
The terms are on the way but this is a rumor in the local rumor mill that’s gone around for about a month. He’s from Sacramento and wanted to return home sources say, and he’ll provide depth that will allow for the Kings to explore trades for Rudy Gay and Ben McLemore. In a 25 mpg role he can return solid value and though the locals, who are not all fans of Barnes’ behavior, might not like it — this is a good placeholder signing for the Kings. His experience with Dave Joerger will be helpful, and Joerger’s implicit approval of this move speaks to his appreciation of Barnes as a player, too.
Update: CSN Insider and podcast partner James Ham has the terms: Two years and $12 million total with a player option. We had him projected at $5-7 million for 1-2 years so we hit it right on the head (sort of). Barnes ranked as our No. 7/8 small forward option in terms of projected price to value.
