ESPN’s Dave McMenamin is reporting that the Cavs want J.R. Smith to shoot more in Sunday’s Game 2.
While Smith has never been afraid to shoot, he attempted just four shots in his 28 minutes during Thursday’s Finals opener. After attempting 8.7 shots per game in the regular season, Smith is down to just 4.7 in the playoffs. He may still be affected by the shooting thumb that he broke back in December, but whatever the case Smith has passed up his share of looks in the postseason. The Cavs are in dire need of secondary scoring and he is one of the few players on the roster with the capacity to turn in a big scoring night. Smith has been tasked with guarding Cleveland’s best backcourt opponents all postseason but the team will now need him to step up his offensive game if they hope to compete with Golden State.
