The Celtics and Sixers have officially completed the trade that sends this year’s top overall pick to Philadelphia and a pair of first-rounders to Boston.
The protections on that future pick are somewhat complicated but very favorable for the Celtics. If the Lakers’ 2018 first-round selection (that the Sixers own) falls between Nos. 2 and 5, that is the one that will head to Boston. If it falls outside that range, the Celtics will then receive the more favorable of Philadelphia or Sacramento’s first-round picks in 2019, so long as it’s not the top overall selection. If either is No. 1 in 2019, Boston gets the lesser pick. The C’s will receive this year’s third overall selection as well.
