Power forward Cheick Diallo scored 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting with 11 rebounds and four blocks in 28 minutes of action in Sunday’s Summer League loss to the Jazz.
Diallo just shouldn’t have dropped as far as he did in the draft. Almost every report about his play has been positive coming out of New Orleans, and not in that homer type of way that’s prevalent around the league this time of year. Going back to the combine he has stood out among his competition and he has more skill than was advertised by draftniks. Today he showed a nice touch around the hoop and of course the athleticism and activity numbers were there. The Pelicans don’t have a ton of depth and he’s going to find his way on the floor. As long as we don’t get some serious brake tappage from Alvin Gentry, we’re going to be taking him late in drafts.
