Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavs came to an agreement on a two-year, $40 million-plus deal on Tuesday.
Dirk’s game is ageless but pretty soon he’s going to be relentlessly targeted on the defensive end. If the Mavs are going to go anywhere serious, they’ll need to surround him with some very good defensive players and they have a nice start on that with Justin Anderson and to a lesser degree Dwight Powell. But to compete with the top tier teams (let alone the Warriors) they’d need defenders at all four of the other slots and that would allow for his offensive game to get its full due.
