Vlade Divac said 7’2″ big man and No. 13 pick Georgios Papagiannis “has the potential to be a new Marc Gasol” according to CSN California’s James Ham.
Divac felt the Kings couldn’t get him at No. 22 and it may take a while before we can get a handle on whether or not that intel was legit. The only reason that’s an issue is because Papagiannis wasn’t on a lot of draft boards in the first round until the days leading up to the draft, and certainly not as high as No. 13. That said, this draft was as unpredictable as any draft we’ve seen in recent memory and we’re all for GMs stepping up and picking who they believe is right. The operative question for Kings fans is whether or not players like Timothe Luwawu and Malik Beasley outplay the combo of Papagiannis and Malachi Richardson (No. 22), because this draft was loaded with backup big men.
