The Grizzlies selected Vanderbilt point guard Wade Baldwin with the 17th pick in the 2016 draft.
Baldwin could have easily gone to the Kings at No. 13 and the Grizzlies are equally needy at the point guard position. Mike Conley might not want to stick around for a rebuild and either way they needed a backup, which is a safer projection for Baldwin. He hit 40 percent of his threes last season and got the line nearly six times per game, hitting 80 percent from the stripe. Those are the makings of a nice fantasy game but his ability to shoot a good percentage from the field is in question. He’s not a huge steals and blocks guy and he doesn’t project to be a big-time playmaker, so he probably has a late-round ceiling in most reasonable scenarios.
