The Heat have matched the Nets’ four-year, $50 million offer sheet for combo guard Tyler Johnson.
It’s yet another restricted free agent being retained, showing exactly how hard it is to snag one of these guys. As we said earlier today, the Heat can gamble on a young player in this price range and it’s not going to cripple them if he doesn’t work. We were early adopters of Johnson, whose shoulder injury sort of ruined his momentum last year, but he’ll have his work cut out for him living up to this contract. He’ll be in the mix with Goran Dragic and Josh Richardson for the two guard slots and that’s going to be fun, young backcourt to watch.
