The Kings signed Ty Lawson to a one-year deal on Wednesday.
The venerable Sam Amick of USA Today reported that the deal is unguaranteed and that’s what we thought it would be given Lawson’s recent play and his off the court baggage. Last season he appeared as if he had lost his explosion and in Indiana injuries sapped whatever chance he had of being a rotational player. It also begs the question of whether or not part of his prior success had been due to George Karl’s spread, drive-and-kick system that would fit a quick point guard, and we’ve always wondered if the injuries throughout the years would catch up.
Nevertheless, he could get 15-20 mpg while Darren Collison (suspension) is out and barring a surprise nobody should be counting on anything more than that. He will be a candidate to be cut midseason before the rest of his contract becomes guaranteed in January.
