The Knicks have chosen French point guard Frank Ntilikina with the eighth pick in the draft.
Ntilikina was New York’s supposed top target and the Knicks had a staffer keeping an eye on him over in Europe. He boasts good basketball IQ and projects as a solution at point for the Knicks, who have relied on wayward souls and second tier options to complement their stars for far too long. Ntilikina might not make the Knicks roster on opening night, as some seasoning in the G-League would do him well. Even if he does make the squad out of camp, it’s unlikely (or rather imprudent) that he gets handed a major role from the jump. He only averaged 19.2 minutes per game with Strasbourg this past season, delivering 5.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists while connecting on 39.1 percent of his triples. It’d be a shock if Ntilikina emerged as a fantasy factor this season. Hopefully the Knicks don’t rush him despite their pressing need at the position.
